History of CVP
Central Valley Presbyterian Church really began in 1998, when four families began gathering together weekly for the purpose of Bible Study and discussion of the various doctrines of Reformation Theology. Out of that weekly study came further studies on a variety of issues ranging from the covenant to family-integration to the proper roles of fathers, mothers and children within the family. Providentially these four families drifted to several congregations within the Central Valley. Throughout the years, God continued to keep them in close contact with one another as they considered beginning a new work. In 2002, the timing was correct and God's will was clear. These four families made the necessary changes to begin meeting as a church.
On February 15th, 2004, forty-eight people gathered together in a living room to begin worship as Central Valley Evangelical Reformed Church. One week later, we secured a lease at the Modesto Adventist Academy and since that time God has been faithful to add to our numbers. God has provided elders, teachers, deacons, and families.
In 2006, the church joined with several other churches throughout the country to form the Covenant Presbyterian Church denomination. Then in early 2007, in order to better describe the church, the decision was made to change the name to Central Valley Presbyterian Church.
Throughout the life of CVP, the vision has remained the same: to share the Gospel with our community one family at a time through sound reformational doctrine and joyful God-centered worship. May He continue to grow our church and increase our impact in this community.
