Distinctives

Confessional/Creedal

CVP recognizes many historic confessions and creeds have been developed throughout church history, but for the purpose of doctrine and teaching in this fellowship, we affirm the standard known as The Westminster Confession of Faith, as well as the Nicene Creed. For the purpose of teaching and training our members and children, we utilize the larger, shorter and children's catechisms of the Westminster Confession.

Family Integrated

CVP champions the cause for developing a multi-generational vision for preserving our spiritual posterity. We desire to equip whole households for ministry through heart-level relationships rather than activity-based programs. We also seek to unite the church with the home by encouraging families to worship together, fellowship together and learn together. Furthermore, we affirm that the scriptures are fully sufficient for ordering church and family, that the church is a larger family of multiple families, and that to succeed in a dying culture the family must be central to our ministry.

Biblical Roles of Men and Women

CVP encourages men and women to fulfill their God-given Biblical roles. We desire men to grasp a vision for headship in their families and a vision for equipping their families for evangelism and discipleship through multiple generations. Biblical spiritual leadership in the home, whether it is called family worship, family devotions, family religion or the family altar, has been recognized as a distinctive feature of the Christian household throughout the history of the church. We seek to train men to lead in their homes, so that our corporate gatherings are merely an extension of our family gatherings. Likewise, we desire that women will also understand and cling to their roles as helpmeets to their husbands and keepers of their homes. Lastly, we recognize the respected place of the older men and women in our fellowship and not only welcome their wisdom, but we have come to expect their involvement in the lives of the younger men and women.

Community

We desire that our church operate as a community; a spiritual "family of families" where members know one another intimately. In this community, it is our desire for the Elders (under-shepherds) to understand the sheep effectively and for the various body parts to function interactively. We desire to respond to one another's needs and whenever possible meet those needs in the corporate sense.
